TFS-Pilot

Military
pilots specifically wear
survival vests in the event that
they have to make a forced
landing (otherwise known as a
crash landing). For years the
standard has been a five-inch
fixed blade with a few saw teeth
on the back. No consideration
was given to the multitude of
uses that knife might face in
the process of keeping the pilot
alive. That necessary
versatility was designed into
the TFS Pilot to more properly
support those downed pilots.
It’s ready to do everything from
cutting them out of web
harnesses to cleaning game to
cutting fire wood. This is what
a compact survival tool should
be.
Overall Length: 7 1/2 inches
Blade Length: 3 3/4 inches
Weight: 8.5 ounces
This tool is composed of a
central body with a function of
handle and of seat of three
folding blades hinged at its
ends. The primary blade,
beak-shaped, opens like shears
of 55 degrees while showing a
second blade fixed on the
central body with whom it forms
a V upside down. The
spring-opening takes place
trough the pressure on a
push-button jutting out on a
side of the central body. Its
function consists in selecting
and shearing ropes and belts in
tension. The knife blade, less
specialized, turns the tool into
a folder of general use. The
opening of this blade is
effected by keeping the pin
fixed on the blade with the
thumb and making it rotate on
the outside until it is stopped
by the block that prevents its
closing if the lever encased on
the back of the tool is not
pressed. Also this opening can
be effected by one hand. The
third blade, serrated, is an
efficacious wood-saw. The tool
is also supplied, at the
opposite end of the cable cutter
beak, with a hardened steel
taper pin turning the TFS into a
crystal-breaker hammer. The
black color reduces the risk of
location by the enemy forces.
The nylon handles are self
extinguishing and provide an
efficacious thermal insulation
helpful for use in extreme
climates.
